Thenmala – Kerala’s 1st planned eco-tourism spot
Thenmala, a hill station tucked away on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, is Kerala’s first planned eco-tourism spot. The place has a variety of trees and medicinal plants. The park houses Kerala’s highest walkway. There’s a butterfly park and a nature trail.
River crossing and adventure cycling is there for adventure enthusiasts. The Thenmala dam closeby is a must-visit. The Thenmala dam had Kerala’s largest reservoir and the second largest irrigation project, too. The Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds the reservoir. You can go boating and treeking from here. There are interesting trekking and wildlife-spotting routes.
Make sure you visit the Deer Rehabilitaion Centre at Thenmala. Also, check out the Palaruvi Waterfalls and Kulathupuzha, a town 10km away.
