Small is big-Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary

At eight sq.km, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the tiniest sanctuaries in India.
The sanctuary is located at the point where Ponda, Sanguem and Satari meet. The forests around are full of deciduous trees, evergreen trees and bamboo bushes.

The number of birds, animals and plants found in this small sanctuary is quite amazing. You can spot animals like gaur, panther, deer, hog, wild boar, Malabar giant squirrel and toddy cat. There are more than a hundred varieties of birds. The Ruby-throated Yellow Bulbul is the state bird, and can be see in plenty here. Other birds are the grey hornbill and the golden-backed woodpecker. Those interested in bird watching may contact the Park Range Office.

The area also houses a Mini Zoo, a Deer Safari Park and botanical gardens. There are many natural trails and trekking routes nearby. Those interested can also stay at the eco-tourism cottages there.

The zoo, deer safari and gardens are closed on Thursdays. Before you head for the sanctuary, do check out details of nearby areas as there are interesting waterfalls, trekking routes and other tourist spots.

Sounds lovely. A little like my hometown in central NY, only more exotic. Birds, hiking trails, waterfalls, deer. Would love to visit someday
