The Indian Woman’s Appeal – Nose Ring!
The Indian woman, according to Hindu belief, has 16 ornaments that she should wear, especially after marriage. It is also called the ‘Solah Shringar’. The nose ring/stud is apparently the sexiest one among the 16! Historians and researchers believe that the practice of wearing this ornament came after the invasion of the Moghuls, who had a tradition of their women donning it.
But Indians claims that the ayurveda text, Sushruta Samhita, mentions that the left nostril is connected to the female reproductive organs. It also claims that a pierced nose reduces pain during childbirth and menstruation.
Women in India wear a nose ring or stud according to their religious sentiments. Some wear it as a fashion accessory. The size, shape and metal used differ in different communities and states, with the majority preferring ones in gold, silver and steel. Most of them wear it on their left or right nostril, but there are tribes that wear them on the septum, the bridge that connects the two.
