Securing Maldives – Ties With India
The Maldives was first under the Netherlands and then the British. It received independence in 1958. It is a wonderful place for a vacation. It has many activities to offer its visitors-Scuba diving, shopping, trekking, sea swimming, boating and much more.
The group of 22 islands that comprise Maldives attract millions of tourists annually. It is strategically located in the Arabian Sea. Due to its position, many countries have expressed interest in setting up base there.
Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony is scheduled to visit Maldives next week to strengthen military ties between the two nations.
