Lauding Abilities – International Disability Film Festival
Organised by Ability Foundation, Chennai, this is a non-commercial, non-competitive film fest. Ability Foundation is a cross disability organisation that seeks to bridge the gap between disabled people and others. This is the third edition of the bi-annual film fest. More than 30 films that have a disability theme will be screened.
The fest is on from October 12-15, at the Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. It was inaugurated by singer-composer A.R. Rahman, actor Tabu and US Consul-General, south India, Andrew Simkin.
A specially designed audio description technology will help visually-impaired persons to understand parts of the movie that are silent. These detailed ‘talks’ will guide them to coherently follow the movie. The organisers advocate that this isn’t a platform to decide winners but to bring out the capabilities and talents of disabled persons.
An event, ‘Sxty Seconds to Fame’ will evaluate entries based on the theme of disability. Programs like these bring to light various hidden talents of people with disabilities, some of which the society often overlooks.
